CNN —The US Soccer Federation and the Mexican Football Federation have withdrawn their joint bid to host the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the two organizations announced on Monday. The announcement of the winning 2027 bid will take place at the 74th FIFA Congress in May. CNN has reached out to FIFA for response to the announcement from the US and Mexico federations. “Hosting a World Cup tournament is a huge undertaking – and having additional time to prepare allows us to maximize its impact across the globe,” US Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone said in a statement. The inaugural FIFA Club World Cup will take place in the country in 2025; the FIFA Men’s World Cup will be coming to North America in 2026 co-hosted by the US, Mexico and Canada; and in 2028, the summer Olympics will take place in Los Angeles.

CNN —Brazil and Orlando Pride star Marta will retire from international soccer this year, she told CNN Brasil in an interview which will air on Sunday, April 28. The 38-year-old is Brazil’s all-time record goalscorer, male or female, with 115 goals and has appeared in six World Cup tournaments. If selected for the Brazilian squad at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Marta could make her sixth appearance at the Games. JPMorgan thinks Assaí Atacadista, one of the largest retailers in Brazil, is a strong investment play as the company begins to reflect better operating trends. Analyst Joseph Giordano upgraded Assaí, a Brazilian self-service wholesale company with almost 300 stores that trades on the New York Stock Exchange, to overweight from neutral. JPMorgan also raised its price target by $2.50 to $17.50, implying upside of almost 30% over the next year. "We revisit our views on the Brazilian cash & carry space ahead of 1Q24 results," Giordano wrote in a note Tuesday. A more flexible balance sheet would enable Assaí to take advantage of the fact that major competitors are not opening new stores, he said.

CNN —Police in Brazil have detained a woman suspected of wheeling a dead man, who she said was her uncle, to a bank to withdraw a four-figure loan. Footage of the woman’s encounter with the bank has sparked a nationwide discussion in Brazil after going viral on social media. But the elderly man in the video – filmed by a bank attendant – remains unresponsive. When paramedics arrived, they concluded that the man had been dead for a couple of hours and must have been dead when he arrived at the bank. Police say they are still trying to establish the relationship between the woman and the dead man.

CNN —At least 20 severely decomposed bodies have been found in a boat off the coast of northeastern Brazil, officials say. The boat was found on the coast of Bragança, northeast of Pará, on April 13, the Brazilian Federal Public Ministry announced Sunday. Officials said at least 20 bodies had been found in the boat, but due to the decomposition of the remains it’s unknown how many died on the boat. The deceased are not thought to be from Brazil but possibly from the Caribbean, investigators told CNN Brasil.
